About Allie Petonic

Allie is dedicated to speaking up and getting results for workers and their families.

Allie Petonic started out as a union organizer. Her early work centered on building people power in campaigns for paid sick leave and restoring collective bargaining rights. She served as political director for the United Food & Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 1059 and as a state field director for the AFL-CIO. As a Penn State alumna, she earned a Master’s Degree in Labor and Global Workers’ Rights. Currently she works for the United Steelworkers (USW) in Pittsburgh and is a proud member of the Pittsburgh Labor Choir.

Allie lives in Brighton Heights in the Northside where she is active and involved in her neighborhood. She is an active volunteer with LCLAA (Labor Council for Latin American Advancement), 412 Justice, Education Rights Network, and APALA (Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance). She's a Democratic Committee Member in the 27th Ward, loves pitching in for neighborhood cleanups, and is a member of the Brighton Heights Citizens Federation. Over the last four years Allie has participated in coalition efforts among parents, teachers, and community partners toward implementing sustainable Community Schools for Pittsburgh Public Schools. She is driven to make sure her neighbors are informed, involved, and can have their voices be heard.

Focusing on what drives safety, resources, and opportunities across our neighborhoods, Allie understands STRONG PUBLIC SCHOOLS are the heart of every thriving community.  She graduated from public school, and she’s understood that strong public schools can be the underpinnings of communities who care for one another. Her passion for building more engagement and welcoming more people into local decision-making anchors her belief in PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
